Salary: Competitive starting salary of £21,500 per annum, increasing to £38,126 - £47,674 per annum after apprenticeship

At Thames Water, we offer an exciting opportunity to become a class one LGV driver for articulate vehicles. You will complete your apprenticeship at Basingstoke STW and then transition into a permanent role at Ashford Sewer Treatment Works.

The start date is 1st September 2025. Note: Candidates with a current class one license are not eligible for this apprenticeship.

What you will be doing as an LGV Class One Apprentice Level 2

This role provides a valuable opportunity to learn skills in high demand across the industry, setting you up for your future career.

Typical duties include:

  • Shadowing drivers to learn routes and site procedures.
  • Driving with intersite teams to transport sludge between treatment works.
  • Delivering cake to farmers for field spreading.
  • Assisting with clearing wet wells with the combi teams.
  • Moving various vehicles, including welfare units, tankers, Hiabs, cars, and 4x4s.
  • Assisting with vehicle maintenance to keep Thames fleet operational.
About the Apprenticeship programme
  • Includes a comprehensive induction delivered by Thames Water and Seetec Outsource Training and Skills.
  • On-the-job training provided by Thames Water.
  • An assigned apprenticeship coach for regular training and development.
  • Access to online learning and an e-portfolio for evidence collection and progress tracking.
  • Duration: 12 months plus 3-6 months for end point assessment.
Location and Hours

Base locations: Ashford STW, TW15 1RU, and Basingstoke STW, RG24 8LL
Working hours: 38 hours/week, starting at 09:00 am, with variations during training and college attendance.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC) and C+E license.
  • Must hold a valid UK driving license and be at least 18 years old.
