Job description

Job Details: LGBT+ social media volunteer

Waythrough launched in October 2024 following the merger of Humankind and Richmond Fellowship. Our vision is to break down barriers that prevent people from accessing the support they need to live fulfilling lives. We address poverty and disadvantage through services in mental health, substance misuse, housing, and related areas.

We operate nearly 200 services across England, supported by around 3,500 staff and volunteers, helping approximately 125,000 people annually.

As we integrate our systems and processes post-merger, some branding may still reflect 'Humankind'. Our recruitment systems will fully merge next year.

Volunteer Role – Social Media Support

Location: Remote, with optional visits to services. Please ensure you have reliable internet and mobile data.

Region: LGBT+ North East

LGBT+ North East supports young people aged 11-25 regarding their sexual or gender identity across County Durham, South Tyneside, and Sunderland. We offer:

  • Up to 6 months of bespoke 1-1 support
  • Peer support groups accessible for up to 1 year
  • Family support sessions exploring pronouns, transitioning, and related topics
  • Navigation support for transgender and nonbinary adults through our TransHealth coordinator
  • Nationwide LGBT+ training for organizations to promote inclusion

Role Responsibilities:

  1. Engage with staff, service users, and volunteers to collect content, quotes, and stories for social media sharing. Attend online or in-person sessions, follow relevant accounts, and research local organizations.
  2. Assist in designing content using templates and brand guidelines.
  3. Promote the service's activities on social media.
  4. Follow data protection, safeguarding, media consent, social media policies, and brand standards.
  5. Regularly meet with a supervisor to review progress.

Practical Considerations: This role is flexible and can be performed remotely. You should have internet access and sufficient mobile data to avoid out-of-pocket expenses.

  • Possess excellent communication skills
  • Understand safeguarding and information governance guidelines
  • Are respectful and non-judgmental
  • Can commit to regular volunteering with flexible timing
