Job Purpose & ScopeOur IT Services team is here to help everyone by making our IT applications and services better. We have three main areas: IT Service Desk and Infrastructure, Application and Data, and Cybersecurity. We provide high-quality internal support and manage external service providers, ensuring our organisation remains at the forefront of technology and security.
The Cyber Security & Compliance Apprentice role sits within the Cybersecurity function and provides a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in securing our IT infrastructure. You will support key activities such as vulnerability management, compliance monitoring, and security operations. This role is ideal for individuals starting a career in cyber security, helping to protect digital environments, and manage security threats while completing a recognised qualification.
Duties and Key Responsibilities- Assisting in reviewing security recommendations from suppliers and regulators.
- Supporting third-party security compliance, including tracking supplier reviews and due diligence activities.
- Helping to coordinate penetration testing with third-party vendors.
- Supporting firewall reviews, user access recertifications, and security audits.
- Assisting in preparing reports and management information (MI) for stakeholders.
- Performing other security and compliance-related tasks as required by the society.
- To carry out any other duties as may reasonably be required
ApprenticeshipDuring your employment you will be completing the Level 4 Cyber Security Technologist Apprenticeship.
You will be required to:
- Attend scheduled training sessions and workshops to build knowledge and practical skills in cyber security.
- Engaging in independent learning through online courses, textbooks, and other educational resources to reinforce formal training.
- Completing assignments and projects that demonstrate your understanding and application of key cyber security concepts.
- Participating in study groups and discussions to develop collaborative learning and problem-solving skills.
- Receiving regular feedback and guidance from mentors and supervisors to support your technical and professional growth.
Person SpecificationQualifications & KnowledgeEssential- GCSEs with grades 9 to 4 (A* to C) in English and Maths, and a Level 3 qualification such as A-Levels (or equivalent).
Experience- Basic understanding of networking, operating systems, and cyber security concept.
- An interest in IT security, compliance, or risk management, with any relevant coursework, projects, or experience considered beneficial.
- A willingness to learn about business IT operations and security best practices. Any prior knowledge is beneficial but not essential.
Skills & Abilities- Basic technical skills, including familiarity with Windows operating systems, troubleshooting simple IT issues, and working with Microsoft Office and other common software.
- Aptitude for learning new technologies and problem solving.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Capable of following processes and able to work to deadlines.
Other RequirementsWorking hours are flexible between Monday to Friday 0800 - 1800, however the need to work beyond these hours is sometimes required.
