Protocol Education are seeking a Level 3 Teaching Assistant to support children and young people with physical and/or medical needs in a specialist provision in Gateshead, while helping access learning through assistive technology.

You will work alongside specialist teachers and education professionals to help pupils become independent, confident and included, adapting activities and supporting the use of technology to access the curriculum.

Qualifications

  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting children or young people with physical and/or medical needs.
  • Experience working within a SEND or specialist education environment.
  • Knowledge or experience of assistive technology, specialist equipment or accessible ICT.
  • Understanding of safe moving and handling and healthcare plans.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good organisation and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to problem-solve and adapt your approach to individual pupils.
  • Confidence to work independently across different settings.
  • A full, clean driving licence and access to a vehicle – essential for the role.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting children and young people with physical and/or medical needs to access education.
  • Adapting learning activities around individual needs, including mobility, fatigue and medical considerations.
  • Supporting pupils to develop independence, communication and participation.
  • Working with assistive technology, specialist equipment or accessible ICT to remove barriers to learning.
  • Setting up, checking and supporting the safe use of specialist equipment.
  • Troubleshooting basic technical issues and ensuring equipment is working effectively.
  • Supporting alternative ways for pupils to record their work and access the curriculum, including IT and AAC.
  • Working alongside specialist teachers, SENCOs, therapists, medical professionals, families and school staff.
  • Providing feedback and observations to help monitor pupil progress and the effectiveness of support.
  • Following individual healthcare, moving and handling and physical/medical needs plans.
  • Maintaining accurate records and ensuring equipment is used safely and appropriately.

Level 3 Teaching Assistant – Physical & Medical Needs & Assistive Technology

Location: Gateshead
Job Type: Full Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026
Pay: £120 - 140per day, dependent on experience

Are you a qualified Level 3 Teaching Assistant looking for a role where you can make a real difference beyond the classroom?

Protocol Education are working with a specialist provision in Gateshead to recruit a dedicated Level 3 Teaching Assistant to support children and young people with physical and/or medical needs, while also helping them access learning through specialist and assistive technology.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced TA who enjoys a varied role, is confident working independently and wants to develop their experience within a specialist SEND setting.

The Role

You will work alongside specialist teachers and education professionals to help children and young people overcome barriers to learning and become as independent, confident and included as possible.

Your day could involve supporting pupils with their learning, helping to implement individual support plans, adapting activities, assisting with specialist equipment or supporting the use of technology that enables pupils to access the curriculum.

You will also work across different educational settings, so no two days are necessarily the same.

What You'll Be Doing

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who is patient, adaptable and confident working with children with additional and complex needs.

You will ideally have:

  • A Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting children or young people with physical and/or medical needs.
  • Experience working within a SEND or specialist education environment.
  • Knowledge or experience of assistive technology, specialist equipment or accessible ICT.
  • An understanding of safe moving and handling and healthcare plans.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good organisation and record-keeping skills.
  • The ability to problem-solve and adapt your approach to individual pupils.
  • the confidence to work independently across different settings.
  • A full, clean driving licence and access to a vehicle – this is essential for the role.
