Job summary

CRAYS HILL PRIMARY SCHOOL is seeking a Teaching Assistant Apprentice to work with children aged 5–11. The role includes supporting individual and small group learning, forming positive relationships and delivering planned activities under teacher guidance.

The programme combines school work with college study (Chelmsford College) and offers a route toward qualified teacher status, with a 1 year 10 month duration and a 5 day week including college time.

Qualifications

• GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 or above.
• Desire to progress toward qualified teacher status.

Responsibilities

• Work with individuals or small groups of children under the direction of teaching staff.
• Establish positive relationships with pupils and support their learning.
• Implement planned learning activities and programmes with the teacher’s guidance.
• Support literacy and numeracy activities to develop pupil skills.
• Assist with ICT use in the classroom to build pupil independence.
• Support positive pupil behaviour following school policies and keep pupils on task.

What You'll Do

• Work with individuals or small groups of children under the direction of teaching staff
• Establish positive relationships with pupils supported
• Implement planned learning activities / teaching programmes as agreed with the teacher
• Support pupils with activities which support literacy and numeracy skills
• Support the use of ICT in the classroom and develop pupils’ competence and independence in its use
• Promote positive pupil behaviour in line with school policies and help keep pupils on task
• To always respect confidentiality
• Participate in evaluation of learning activities with the teacher, providing feedback to the teacher on pupil progress and behaviour
