Job Description: Early Years Educator Apprentice at Granby Wickersley
Granby Wickersley is a privately owned, Ofsted-registered day nursery committed to providing the highest quality day care and early years education for children from 6 weeks to 5 years old.
We offer a full-time position upon completion of the apprenticeship. The role involves:
- Being responsible for a small group of children in your key room as their key person, ensuring their care and supporting their learning and development with qualified staff assistance.
- Planning and observing the children’s development to meet the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) learning objectives, creating individual learning journeys to record and evaluate progress.
- Developing a thorough understanding of the EYFS framework.
- Providing an engaging, fun, age-appropriate learning environment with a variety of stimulating activities.
- Organizing outdoor activities and visits to local parks and sites, ensuring these experiences have educational value.
- Collaborating with the nursery's Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Coordinator to support individual learning and development needs.
- Creating and maintaining learning materials and resources.
- Understanding and implementing the five outcomes for children from “Every Child Matters” (2004).
- Maintaining a setting free from discrimination and promoting inclusive practices.
- Recording key information about children’s routines and communicating daily updates to parents to foster strong partnerships.
- Adhering to nursery policies and procedures, ensuring all children are stimulated and supported to reach their full potential.
- Acting as a positive role model and safeguarding the welfare of all children, reporting any concerns regarding illness, neglect, injury, or abuse.
- Assisting with daily nursery duties, including ensuring a safe, secure, and clean environment.
- Supporting children with feeding, dressing, personal hygiene, and encouraging independence.
- Maintaining hygienic standards, assisting with first aid, and ensuring health and safety compliance.
- Respecting confidentiality and nursery property, and upholding high standards at all times.
- Participating in out-of-hours activities such as staff meetings and training.
- Communicating regularly with supervisors and colleagues, and performing any other duties as directed.
The apprenticeship includes:
- Early Years Educator Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard
- End-Point Assessment
- Off-the-job training
- Functional skills in English and maths (if required)
- Paediatric first aid qualification training
Working hours are Monday to Friday, between 7:30 am and 6:00 pm, scheduled in advance on a rota basis.
