Nuclear Health Physics Monitor Apprenticeship (Level 2) - Nuclear Restoration Services Ltd

Location: Dungeness, Kent, TN29 9PP

What is a Health Physics Monitor?

A health physics monitor ensures people, plant and the environment are kept safe from the effects of radiation and potential contamination. It's a specialist, hands on and in demand role. You will be trained to use technical instruments to take readings of surface and airborne contamination levels and radiation dose rates, recording the readings detected and responding accordingly.

What You'll Do:

  1. Learn the Ropes: Get hands-on experience working with our expert team in a real-world nuclear setting. You'll learn about radiation protection, contamination control, and safety protocols.
  2. Work with Experts: Collaborate with seasoned health physicists who will mentor and guide you through every step of the process.
  3. Be Hands On: You will be trained to use technical instruments, to take readings of surface and airborne contamination levels and radiation dose rates, recording the readings detected and responding accordingly.
  4. Learn while you Earn: You will be following the Government approved Level 2 Nuclear Health Physics Monitor Apprenticeship Standard. You will be spending a portion of your time studying at the MTC (Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre) in Oxford. You can also expect on the job training at your allocated NRS site and the kind of practical experience you can't get in a college based environment.

  1. Entry Requirements: Are you aged 18 or over (on the 4th August 2025)? Have you got 5 GCSE's, ranging from 9-3 (A*-D), including Maths and Science? If the answers are yes, get your application in!

  3. Attention to Detail: We're looking for individuals who are careful, thorough, and meticulous in their work.

Additional Requirements:

All NRS employees must be security cleared prior to employment. In some cases, your course provider may not be close to your site, therefore travel and residential costs will be funded by NRS when you are at college. You need to live within commuting distance to the site where the role is based.
