The post holder will provide clinical expertise and knowledge demonstrating a sound understanding of supporting CYP and families with a diagnosis of Leukaemia and have detailed clinical knowledge supporting and guiding junior staff in the process. Within the busy Oncology/Haematology department the post holder will also assist the senior Sister/Charge Nurses in ensuring that high standards of quality of care are delivered & maintained. utilising the protocols and treatment plans ensuring the correct guidance is followed. The post holder will act as a positive role model within the department for staff patients and carers and will participate in the improving quality programme within the trust.

To support the ward manager in implementing education, training and development strategies throughout the area for all staff groups. The role contributes to the improvement of standards to care through the development of the newly qualified workforce.

The role will include the planning and management of patient pathways of treatment for children and families with a diagnosis of Leukaemia. Provide specialist knowledge and expertise for the children and families, working with the Haematology consultants and supporting Leukaemia clinics, procedure list and educating nursing staff. The post holder will be competent in the clinical skills required for a Band 6 position within Oncology/Haematology outpatients and will be IV competent and proficient in Systemic Anti- Cancer Treatment ( SACT). Participating in audit and research, teaching and supporting colleagues throughout changes in practice. In conjunction with the Ward Manager, they will ensure that the workforce is fit for purpose in terms of their roles and that individual competencies are reviewed to provide a safe, high quality and efficient service.

Delivery of and supporting staff in Appraisals, revalidation, mandatory training, preceptorship and continuing professional development. They will contribute to the Trust education and development strategies, leading projects as designated by the Ward manager/ Modern Matron.
