Job summary

Durham County Council is seeking a Leisure Assistant to create welcoming, safe environments and support customers in leading active lifestyles across our leisure centres. The role includes lifeguarding duties and helping run daily centre operations.

Applicants should have Level 2 Gym Instructor or National Pool Lifeguard qualifications, plus First Aid. Flexible hours include full-time, part-time and casual across several centres, with some hybrid working where applicable.

Qualifications

• Experience in a customer-focused environment, leisure centre and/or gym setting.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• First Aid Certificate, or ability to obtain one within timescale.

Responsibilities

• Delivering excellent customer service across all areas of the centre.
• Supporting customers in leading healthier, more active lifestyles.
• Carrying out lifeguarding duties and ensuring pool safety.
• Encouraging children and young people to participate in physical activity.
• Supporting day-to-day operation of the leisure centre.
• Helping maintain a safe, efficient and enjoyable environment for all customers.
