Job Description
The Legal function provides strategic legal advice to senior group stakeholders globally, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. It supports the achievement of De Beers Group's business objectives while managing risks and identifying opportunities for value creation and continuous improvement.
The role involves developing, coordinating, supporting, and managing the operational framework within which the Legal function partners with the business. This aims to deliver strategic objectives, foster innovation and technological advancement, promote best practices and knowledge sharing, and identify risks and opportunities related to in-house legal services.
Responsibilities of the Legal Operations Manager include:
- Supporting the creation of a legal integration framework and service delivery model.
- Identifying, advocating for, and integrating legal tech solutions to improve legal operations, including contract management systems and AI-driven analytics.
- Partnering with IM and vendors to innovate, especially in legal permitting and contracting.
- Staying updated with legal technology trends to keep the legal team at the forefront of advances.
- Establishing a legal risk reporting standard and overseeing regular reporting.
- Formulating a proactive risk management approach for Legal and collaborating across jurisdictions for consistent risk evaluation and mitigation.
- Hosting team meetings and workshops for knowledge sharing and addressing emerging issues.
- Cultivating a culture of knowledge sharing within the team.
- Overseeing training initiatives to ensure the legal team is well-equipped.
- Identifying skill gaps and promoting ongoing professional growth.
- Designing a cost-effective legal budget management strategy.
- Tracking and reporting on legal division's budget performance.
- Refining legal processes and strategies to maintain high standards in legal operations.
Qualifications:
- Qualified lawyer with experience in a similar role within a large global organization.
- Operational experience understanding value chains and process-driven organizations.
- Experience in commercial and finance business partnering.
- Experience in a multinational business of similar scale and complexity.
- Knowledge of in-house legal environment themes, including cost, technology, and risk management.
- Familiarity with legal operations and management software (preferred but not essential).
- Knowledge of AI-driven legal analytics tools and their applications.
- Ability to evaluate and integrate emerging legal tech solutions.
- Proficiency with collaboration tools for global teams.
- Ability to identify training needs and source relevant modules.
- Skills in budget planning, data visualization, and project management methodologies.
- Understanding of governance, delegation, decision-making systems, and key metrics.
- Performance analysis skills related to legal processes and risk assessment.
- Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
