Role Purpose
Higgs are looking to appoint a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to the role of Legal Finance Administrator within the Finance team. This role provides an excellent opportunity to build experience across key areas of finance, including billing, financial transaction processing and reconciliations. You will be supported through on the job training to develop confidence in legal finance systems and gain an understanding of relevant regulatory requirements (such as the SRA Accounts Rules), with a view to becoming a Legal Cashier. The role is ideal for someone with strong attention to detail and a genuine interest in working within a finance function in a legal environment.
Key Responsibilities
In line with policies and procedures key responsibilities would cover primarily legal cashiering but may also have exposure to management accounting, purchase ledger and credit control.
Responsibilities
Billing and Transaction Processing
- Support the preparation of invoices and billing across multiple matters
- Process time and disbursement adjustments and transfers between files
- Help maintain accurate coding and transaction posting, with training on legal and regulatory requirements (e.g. SRA Accounts Rules)
- Maintain a good knowledge of Aderant (financial accounts package) and be able to interrogate it
Payments and Reconciliation
- Process and validate payments to clients, suppliers and general ledger accounts
- Reconcile bank accounts and supplier statements
- Liaise with suppliers to resolve queries and ensure prompt, accurate payments
- Handle telegraphic transfers (receipts and payments) and cheque payments in line with firm processes

Technical Knowledge
- Proficient use of Microsoft Packages (e.g. Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)
- Confident in using Microsoft Excel including formulas and data handling

Month ends and year end are a particularly busy time in the finance department and you will be required to contribute efforts to a greater extent, potentially including working additional hours.
