Job description

This is an exciting opportunity for an Underwriter to join our successful Legal Expenses business.

Working as part of a close-knit team based in Bristol, we offer a great environment to support and nurture personal and technical development, including participation in our award winning Excellence in Technical underwriting academy.

No risk is the same, so you’ll need to use your analytical and communication skills, as well as technical knowledge to ensure customer satisfaction, influence our distributors and develop strong trading relationships to ensure customer retention.

You will play an active role managing our portfolios with a focus on growth and profitability across out ATE & BTE accounts.

We are looking for an underwriter who can trade and underwrite new business and renewals with our brokers and distributors.

You will have involvement in all aspects of Underwriting and account management including working with policy documentation updates, product refreshes, pricing and handling referrals.

This is a hybrid role based out of our Bristol Victoria St office.

Salary Information

Pay: Circa £37,000 per year.

Pay is based on relevant experience, skills for the role, and location. Salary is only one part of our total reward package.

About You

  • Providing excellent service to our customers
  • To build and develop successful Broker relationships
  • To develop business relationships with key stakeholders
  • Handle new business and renewal referrals across ATE & BTE accounts
  • Manage policy wording library and documentation updates
  • Assist in managing the constant review of the shape and quality of incoming business. Ensuring that Pricing/Underwriting integrity is maintained
  • Providing detailed analysis of portfolio experience and provide tangible actions to ensure continued profitability
  • Support distribution in creation of legal expenses schemes for key pipeline targets
  • To achieve agreed financial and operational performance targets
  • To collaborate strongly with other departments to achieve the Company's goals in respect of service delivery
  • Excellent relationship management skills.
  • Practical knowledge of MS Office and MS Outlook.
  • Good Numerical and verbal reasoning skills.
  • Excellent verbal influencing and trading skills.
  • An understanding of the general insurance market
  • GCSE Maths and English or relevant equivalent experience
  • Taking initiative and being proactive within a team
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail and good analytical and decision making skills
  • Experience in underwriting Legal Expenses insurance
  • Passionate about your own development, so commitment to progressing towards internal and CII qualifications is necessary for working within this technical team
  • Ability to multi task at pace and the ability to work hard on own initiative and be achievement oriented.
  • Able to organise own workload to meet tight deadlines and support the team in delivering excellent service levels
  • A good team player. Supportive to others with an enthusiastic and positive attitude.
  • Resilient and adaptable to change.
