Job Role

Allianz Global Investors (AllianzGI) invest client funds in private debt and private equity investments across primary and secondary markets globally. Our clients include domestic and foreign insurance companies of the Allianz Group as well as external institutional investors.

Our private markets strategies are supported by a highly specialised team within the legal department, in which you will play a crucial role. As a member of that team, you will be responsible for managing our investment funds landscape and for coordinating investment activities. You will work independently and alongside our investment teams in Munich, Frankfurt, Luxembourg, Paris, London, New York and Singapore as well as with other relevant departments in AllianzGI. Your daily activities will range from setting up third-party fund vehicles and segregated accounts to leading transactions where you will engage in legal negotiations with external counterparties. Throughout the lifecycle of our funds, you will serve as the internal contact for all legal matters and represent AllianzGI internally and externally. The position can be based in London, Frankfurt or Munich.

What you will do

1. Advising on debt investments entered into by our private markets funds and segregated accounts, including at inception and ongoing advice in relation to waivers, amendments, and restructurings.
2. Structuring and setting up private credit investment funds in Luxembourg and other jurisdictions, taking into account legal, tax and regulatory requirements (e.g. AIFM licensing requirements, investor eligibility requirements, sustainability requirements, regulatory capital charges).
3. Providing ongoing legal/regulatory advice on all major issues relating to investment products managed or advised by AllianzGI throughout the product lifecycle.
4. Drafting and advising on investment management and advisory agreements for the private credit (direct investment) strategies of AllianzGI.
5. Collaborate seamlessly with other internal stakeholders across our private markets platform, including investment teams, sustainability, risk, compliance, operations, tax and finance teams.

What you bring

1. Fully qualified lawyer (either English, German, French or Luxembourg law) with experience at an international law firm or legal department of an asset manager.
2. Comfortable handling a broad range of coverage topics: i.e. the role is unique in that it provides exposure to both fund structuring and investments. Our ideal candidate would be a debt finance lawyer with experience of restructuring that is willing to learn the fund/IMA side of the role.
3. At least 8 years’ PQE, having gained significant experience of private markets funds and international transactional advisory work.
4. Excellent communication, negotiation and advocacy skills, both with internal and external stakeholders.
5. Comfortable working autonomously with significant ownership and individual responsibility for your matters whilst also ensuring regular communication with your management and wider team on critical topics.
6. Skilled in distilling complex legal topics into digestible advice for a variety of audiences.
7. Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with all counterparties across the value chain, driving and fostering harmony and teamwork.
8. Learning agility and keen interest in following policy, legal and regulatory developments relevant for the business.
9. Experience of sustainable investments within private markets is an advantage but not a pre-requisite.
10. Experience of German regulated investor requirements (in private markets funds) is an advantage but not a pre-requisite.
