An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Legal Counsel to join a dynamic, growing in-house legal team supporting commercial, development, procurement and finance operations in the UK Energy Sector.

The Business
The company is a leading investor and operator in the UK energy market, with a portfolio spanning conventional and renewable power generation assets and a commitment to developing sustainable energy infrastructure, the business is focused on strategic acquisitions, asset optimisation and project development that support energy transition goals. The legal team plays a pivotal role in ensuring the business operates within legal and regulatory frameworks, while supporting commercial decision-making and managing complex risk profiles.
The Role
As Legal Counsel, you will be a key contributor to the legal function, providing commercially focused legal advice across a broad spectrum of infrastructure and energy-related matters. You will work closely with cross-functional teams including commercial, technical and financial specialists, contributing to the successful delivery of major development and acquisition projects. Your legal expertise will be vital in supporting business growth, optimising asset operations and managing contractual relationships with a range of counterparties.
The role involves advising on legal risks and opportunities across the lifecycle of energy projects-from early-stage development through to asset acquisition and operational optimisation. You will be responsible for reviewing and negotiating contracts, advising on regulatory compliance, and supporting high-value corporate and finance transactions. A key aspect of the role includes working on strategic acquisitions and due diligence in the secondary market for energy and infrastructure assets.
This London-based role offers exposure to a wide range of legal and commercial matters within a complex and evolving sector. You will also have opportunities to work with external counsel, contribute to internal legal know-how, and support strategic decision-making at a senior level. Occasional travel within the UK and Ireland will be required.
Requirements
To succeed in this position, you will be a UK qualified solicitor with 3-8 PQE gained in private practice and/or in-house, ideally within the energy, infrastructure or construction sectors. You should be confident managing a varied and demanding workload with minimal supervision, while being supported by experienced senior legal counsel. The ability to provide practical, business-enabling legal solutions is critical.
