We are working with a prominent UK regulatory body to find an experienced Legal Counsel to support a high-performing in-house legal team during a particularly busy period. This is a temporary 6-12 month role offering the opportunity to work on a range of complex legal matters in the public sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise on economic regulation of major infrastructure projects
  • Work on rail reform projects in alignment with government White Papers
  • Engage in litigation, including judicial review matters
  • Oversee policy for monitoring performance of key infrastructure providers under their respective licences
  • Provide legal guidance on consumer law, passenger protection, and complaints management
  • Assist in determining contractual disputes regarding timetabling and access
  • Ensure the safe operation of critical transport infrastructure under international obligations
  • Advise on competition law matters and corporate issues, such as employment and procurement

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister in England & Wales
  • Experience in public law, economic regulation, or policy-focused legal work is a plus
  • Strong litigation, regulatory, and advisory skills
  • Ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including policy colleagues and government bodies
