Your future plans

Our legal and compliance team advises the company’s business on all legal and compliance matters on a global basis. The role involves working across the global business with the commercial functions that trade physical bulk commodities and arrange the shipping and logistics for those products as well as with the company’s global freight trading business.

The provision of advice related to physically traded commodities, the chartering and operation of vessels employed within the trading business of RWE Supply & Trading GmbH in relation to both dry bulk and liquid products, including initially advising on:

  • contracts for the sale and purchase of physically delivered commodities and associated logistics contracts
  • credit and finance matters relating to the shipping and physical commodities markets
  • legal aspects of time and voyage charter parties and reviewing and negotiating chartering terms with counterparties prior to fixing vessels
  • standard and non-standard shipping and trading documentation, including bills of lading, LOIs, and documentary and standby letters of credit

Qualifications:

  • You are qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales with relevant working experience, either as in a law firm or working in-house
  • Preferably, you have experience working in the energy sector, in particular commodity trading or energy projects including those with debt finance
  • You are comfortable advising on a substantial proportion of your day-to-day work without recourse to external counsel
  • Strong proven legal technical ability in either contentious or non-contentious work with a track record of being able to pick up and learn new areas of law and advise upon them with a depth of knowledge in short timescales
  • You are self-motivated to drive the business and deliver results and develop skills in new areas of law with appropriate support
  • You are used to advising stakeholders as equals, do not shy away from conflict, and are confident to defend your position when challenged
  • You enjoy working in a global context, including in cross-functional teams
