Job description

Role Introduction

This is an FTC for approximately 12 months, starting in 2-3 weeks. If you are immediately available, this could be an ideal opportunity.

OneAdvanced is seeking a capable and motivated Legal Counsel to join our dynamic Commercial Legal Team on a permanent basis. You will be the dedicated legal support for our public sector business unit, playing a key role in supporting the business's growth across the UK and Ireland.

Reporting to our Senior Legal Counsel, you will work closely with the wider business teams to provide practical, commercially focused legal advice. Your responsibilities include drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts, managing legal risk, and supporting the company's success while upholding high legal and ethical standards.

This role is based at our Birmingham Mailbox HQ, with 2-3 days per week onsite.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate various commercial agreements, including master services, customer contracts, supplier and partner agreements, licensing, escrow, call-off, and data processing agreements.
  • Support sales and go-to-market teams in contract negotiations.
  • Understand privacy and data protection principles, support review and negotiation of data processing terms, and escalate issues as needed.
  • Be familiar with UK Public Sector contracts and frameworks to ensure compliance.
  • Engage in strategic support involving partner and supplier agreements, M&A activities, AI-related legal considerations, and privacy matters.

What You Will Have

  • Qualified solicitor (or equivalent) with 3-5 years relevant experience, ideally in-house or at a reputable law firm.
  • Experience drafting, negotiating, and advising on commercial contracts.
  • Understanding of UK GDPR/DPAs and data protection obligations.
  • Commercially minded with strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent time-management skills, ability to work under pressure, and deliver practical solutions.
  • Accountability, proactive problem-solving, and team-oriented attitude.
  • Desirable: experience with public sector contracts, interest in legal technology, and enthusiasm for learning and development.
