We are currently looking for a Legal Counsel to join our highly regarded Group Legal Team on a permanent basis in London. This role will support a team of in-house lawyers providing strategic legal advice, guidance, and support across Royal London’s Asset Management business.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a growing team where you will undertake various legal activities, using your knowledge to support the Asset Management division and develop key relationships across the wider Royal London Group. You will benefit from working alongside experienced legal professionals who champion development and continuous learning.

About the role

  • Providing proactive strategic legal advice and support to internal stakeholders on asset management activities, including portfolio management, distribution, rebate arrangements, non-disclosure agreements, fund documentation, and trading arrangements.
  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating documentation such as investment management agreements, distribution agreements, fund documentation, and outsourcing agreements.
  • Advising on the interpretation of laws and regulations impacting RLAM, including MiFID II, UCITS V, AIFMD, and AIFMD II.
  • Leading legal aspects of projects, product development, and fund launches.
  • Identifying, managing, and mitigating legal risks with pragmatic solutions.
  • Collaborating on cross-organization projects and regulatory initiatives within the Group Legal team.
  • Working with external counsel cost-effectively, providing strategic interpretation and communication of legal advice.
  • Business partnering within the Asset Management division as delegated by the divisional counsel.

About you

  • A collaborative, commercial, and pragmatic asset management solicitor.
  • Experience in the Asset Management/Financial Services sector, gained in a law firm or in-house.
  • Strong knowledge of legal and regulatory issues in investment management.
  • Proactive, accountable, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of corporate governance, FCA/PRA regulations, and their impact on the group.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of engaging stakeholders at all levels.
