We are working with a highly regarded financial institution seeking a capable and confident Legal Counsel to join its close-knit team in London. This is a permanentgeneralist in-house legal role, ideal for a qualified solicitor looking to take ownership of a varied legal portfolio in a collaborative environment. Thisposition would suit someone who enjoys being the go-to legal advisor across a broad range of internal departments-covering everything from employment and data protection to simple loan agreements and trade finance. This role is an onsite role with 5 days in the office per week.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide pragmatic legal advice across a broad spectrum of issues including commercial contracts, employment law, regulatory matters, and banking products (vanilla lending and trade finance).
- Act as a liaison between internal departments and external solicitors to ensure legal matters are appropriately addressed and actioned.
- Review, draft, and negotiate agreements with service providers, partners, and clients.
- Offer guidance on employment-related matters and human resources procedures.
- Support company secretarial and governance processes, including reviewing relevant policies and documentation.
- Conduct legal research on emerging regulatory or compliance issues affecting the organisation.
- Manage claims for and against the institution, including litigation management in coordination with external counsel.
Requirements:
- UK-qualified solicitor with a minimum of 5 years of experience and qualified, ideally in an in-house legal counsel role.
- Demonstrable experience advising on employment law, commercial contracts, and regulatory compliance.
- Familiarity with banking and finance products, particularly loans and trade finance (vanilla only).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the confidence to engage stakeholders across all levels.
- Comfortable working independently while knowing when to seek specialist external advice.
- Previous exposure to company secretarial or governance work is advantageous.
