The Role:

To support its strategic growth and transformation agenda, Cynergy Bank is looking for an experienced banking and finance lawyer, qualified to practice in England and Wales. Reporting to the Group General Counsel and Company Secretary. The role involves working closely across all areas of the bank including product development, lending, corporate, commercial and capital markets. The role will provide an opportunity to interact with leadership from an early stage.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to the Group General Counsel across a challenging and complex range of legal matters
  • Provide end-to-end legal advice across commercial documentation including lending and product terms
  • Support strategic initiatives across the Bank, providing general advice and counsel where required
  • Review legal and regulatory developments in the market generally and support the business in implementing any changes to processes
  • Support the enhancement of the legal department capabilities, finding efficiencies for supporting productivity
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Represent the legal department across projects and Bank transformation
  • Support the compliance and company secretarial agenda as required by the General Counsel
  • Supervise and support junior members of the team

Essential Knowledge & Experience:

  • Must be qualified to practice law in England and Wales, registered with Solicitors Regulatory Authority and holding a current practising certificate issued by them.
  • Excellent communication Skills (both written and verbal)
  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister of at least 5 years PQE or equivalent
  • Broad experience in lending and commercial matters, working on large commercial lending transactions under time pressure
  • Strong drafting, negotiation and transaction and stakeholder management experience
  • Proactive, collaborative and adaptable approach in a fast-paced environment

Desirable knowledge & Experience:

  • Experience in-house within a bank or finance provider
  • Knowledge and demonstrable experience of commercial banking
  • Experience in a wide variety of legal matters
  • Financial services experience
  • CCA/asset finance experience
