About Global Legal

Our Global Legal team plays a crucial role in protecting HSBC's reputation by providing comprehensive legal advice on risks and issues. We advise senior management and various business units across all countries and territories where HSBC operates.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Legal Counsel to join the Markets and Securities Services Legal team. This role involves providing expert legal advice to mitigate legal and reputational risks, typically reporting to an Associate General Counsel or a Country General Counsel. Opportunities for career progression include advancing to roles such as Senior Legal Counsel (GCB5 or GCB4).

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the accountable lawyer for all material legal issues related to structured products, including product design, documentation, governance, and cross-border distribution.
• Implement relevant policies and procedures to support Legal's second line of defence role.
• Advise management on non-standard legal and reputational risks.
• Stay informed of changes in legal and regulatory requirements and respond accordingly.
• Provide clear, practical legal advice that adds value and considers the broader context.
• Offer pragmatic guidance to relevant businesses concerning structured products in a cost-effective manner.

Candidate Requirements

• Qualified UK Lawyer with PQE
• Experience with structured products or derivatives is essential
• Knowledge of product governance requirements is advantageous
• Strong negotiation, drafting, and commercial judgment skills
• Ability to manage diverse issues, adapt to new situations, and work under pressure
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
