Job summary

SaleCycle is seeking a highly capable Legal Counsel to oversee all legal aspects of the business, with emphasis on contracts and data privacy.

You will be the single point of contact for internal legal matters and coordinate external counsel as needed, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer. The role supports a hybrid-working model with UK and Parisian stakeholders, contributing to legal strategy and cost efficiency.

Qualifications

• Qualified solicitor (England & Wales or equivalent) with PQE criteria.
• Experience in contract negotiation and drafting with commercial acumen.
• Data protection experience, especially in tech/marketing contexts.
• Experience providing and overseeing legal support for multiple global jurisdictions in an in-house setting.
• Experience in or with a marketing or data company and operating in ISO27001 environments.

Responsibilities

• Review and own the legal landscape for the business; develop and implement a legal support model.
• Build relationships with stakeholders in UK and Paris; understand SaleCycle products.
• Negotiate and maintain customer, supplier, and partner agreements; maintain precedents.
• Act as Company Data Protection Officer and ensure compliance with data protection laws.
• Ensure contracts align with insurance requirements and manage external law firms when needed.
• Identify proactive legal solutions to minimise risk across the business.
• Be the focal point for all legal queries and coordinate with external counsel as needed.

About the role

We are looking for a highly motivated, knowledgeable and efficient individual to oversee all legal aspects of our business. The legal workload is predominantly contract and data privacy for our global business; the workload can touch any area of law relevant to our company. You will act as the single point of contact for legal matters internally, and be responsible for the efficient utilisation of any third‑party legal expertise. Success in this role will result in a legal workload that is handled swiftly, with improved outcomes and a lower total cost of ownership.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will be responsible for owning the legal touchpoints for the business and for applying your time most efficiently to meet that need. You will:

• Review the legal landscape for our business and develop, communicate, implement and own an effective support model for our legal workload, educating and supporting anyone touching that workload;
• Develop expertise and understanding of relevant SaleCycle products and build strong relationships with business stakeholders in our offices in the UK and Paris.
• Support key business stakeholders in relation to the negotiation of all commercial contract matters including customer, supplier and partner agreements as well as maintaining relevant precedents;
• Be the Company Data Protection Officer with an understanding of the relevant current and future Data Compliance legislation in key geographies, communicating it effectively to relevant business stakeholders and supporting implementation of compliance processes and systems where appropriate;
• Support the business to ensure our client contracts and our insurance dovetail, and ensure we operate within the rules and confines of our insurance;
• Identify and implement proactive legal solutions that minimise legal risks across the business; and
• Be the focal point for all other legal queries, resolving them with support from external law firms if required.

Essential Skills & Experience

• A qualified solicitor (England & Wales or equivalent) meeting one of the following criteria:
  • For Full-Time Applicants: 4 to 6 years of Post-Qualification Experience (PQE).
  • For Part-Time Applicants (3 days/week): 8+ years of Post‑Qualification Experience (PQE).

• Strong contract negotiating and drafting skills and commercial acumen.
• Data protection experience with a specific focus on technology and marketing being desirable.
• Providing and overseeing legal support for different global jurisdictions;
• Working in an in-house environment;
• Working for a marketing or data company;
• Working in or with a small to medium growing business;
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently, at pace;
• Familiar with operating in an ISO27001 certified environment.
