Job description

I'm working with an award-winning financial services organisation offering flexible alternatives to traditional banking. This is a business in growth mode who are now looking to recruit a Legal Counsel to work alongside the Legal Director. This is an excellent opportunity to learn from a very experienced, senior lawyer while acquiring the skills required to lead an in-house legal function.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and advising on a variety of contractual matters;
  2. Advising the leadership and business teams on legal and strategic matters in a variety of fields, which may include regulatory compliance, financial services, commercial law, corporate, competition law, intellectual property, and occasionally, litigation;
  3. Participating and leading as required in key project groups, for example, new product development and other commercial opportunities;
  4. Keeping up-to-date with legal developments, ensuring that any pertinent topics are communicated effectively to internal stakeholders;
  5. Reviewing and updating policies and procedures.

Skills & Experience:
  1. Be a UK-qualified solicitor with at least 3 years PQE in commercial contracts;
  2. Experience can be gained in-house or in private practice;
  3. Experience in fintech or financial services is desirable;
  4. Excellent oral and written communication, facilitation skills, and the ability to present information in a concise and coherent manner, communicating risk effectively, and in line with business risk appetite;
  5. Ability to work confidently with limited supervision and a good understanding of the regulated environment in which the Group operates;
  6. Ability to exert influence and build strong relationships across different business functions.

This is a really interesting business in a period of scale-up, creating an opportunity for the successful lawyer to progress and cement themselves with the senior team.
