Job summary

Portakabin Ltd is seeking a Legal Counsel to join the Legal team at the Head Office in York. The role will support commercial negotiations, manage legal risk and ensure compliance across the company.

You will review contracts, advise on engagements, coordinate with external firms as needed, and help implement the ethical compliance framework. Previous in-house experience and knowledge of commercial law are preferred.

Qualifications

• Qualified solicitor with in-house or commercial law experience.
• Experience in contract review and negotiating terms.
• Knowledge of legal and ethical compliance risks.

Responsibilities

• Review commercial contracts to identify and manage legal risks.
• Advise on contractual engagements with customers and suppliers.
• Liaise with external legal firms for specialist matters or litigation.
• Support negotiations to finalize contractual positions with business units.
• Assist in designing and implementing the company ethical compliance framework.
• Support IP portfolio management and related training on legal principles.
• Develop and deliver training to raise awareness of commercial legal risks.
• Mentor and coordinate team members when appropriate.

Description

Are you looking to join a successful and growing organisation who are committed to creating a great safe place to work where all employees have the opportunity to contribute, grow and develop? Portakabin are looking for a Legal Counsel to join our Legal team based at our Head office in York.

As an experienced Legal Counsel you will support commercial negotiations and manage legal risk and compliance for the Company.

Role Details:

• Annual salary up to £62,000 dependent on skills and experience. Plus an annual on target bonus of up to 10%
• Role based: York , YO32 9PT
• Contract type: Fixed Term Contract – 12 months
• Eligible for Single Private Medical Scheme
• Annual leave of 25 days per annum plus bank holidays and opportunity to buy an additional 5 days each year.

Key Responsibilities

• Review commercial contracts in line with the legal framework to identify and manage legal risks.
• Advise on contractual engagements with customers and suppliers where non-standard terms are used or where there is non-compliance with the legal framework.
• Liaise with external legal firms where required for specialist matters and in cases of litigation or disputes.
• Support business units with customer and supplier negotiations to agree final contractual positions.
• Support the Head of Legal and Head of Governance and Secretariat in the design and implementation of the Company ethical compliance framework.
• Support the Intellectual Property Manager with the management of the company IP portfolio, as required.
• Develop and deliver training to improve awareness of basic commercial legal principles and areas of risk across the business
• May take responsibility for mentoring and coordinating the work of team members, where appropriate.

Job Benefits

• Understanding of legal and ethical compliance risks with the ability to communicate them clearly to stakeholders at all levels.
