We deal in the personal – from pet insurance for your best friend, and home insurance for peace of mind, to motor insurance for your dream car or travel money for that trip you’ve worked hard for. And that means we always work with heart. Whether we’re helping our customers or looking after our people, you’ll find there’s a warmth and friendliness to everything we do.
We’re looking for a commercially minded, solutions-orientated Legal Counsel to join our Insurance and Money Services Legal team.
As part of a small legal team, you’ll enjoy the privilege of overseeing all aspects of the Tesco Insurance and Money Services and our relationships with the wider Tesco Group. This role offers you the scope of offering a general counsel type service ranging from commercial contract negotiation to product development.
This role would be ideal either for an insurance services specialist looking to develop a more rounded end-to-end skill set; or for a commercial generalist looking to develop an insurance services expertise. As you’ll be joining Tesco at the start of an exciting new journey, you will be instrumental in helping to shape its future.
You’ll be reporting to our Head of Legal while working alongside colleagues at all levels. You’ll be managing services delivered by external solicitors and form a key member of virtual teams, to ensure the delivery of supplier services to Tesco Insurance and Money Services and our customers.
What you’ll be doing
  • Identify and manage legal risk in delivering targeted, commercially focused legal advice on corporate, commercial and regulatory legal matters across Tesco Insurance and Money Services.
  • Offering support and advice on retail insurance products, their development, customer journeys and product terms and conditions
  • Negotiating and advising upon third party service, introducer, consultancy, data and software contracts
  • Advising on general commercial and regulatory legal queries
We need you to have
  • Demonstrable experience as a qualified solicitor (with a valid practising certificate in a UK jurisdiction).
  • Experience of strong relationship management (both internal and external stakeholders).
  • Significant commercial contract legal experience either in-house or in private practice.
  • A track record of delivering pragmatic, risk-based legal advice.
And if you have any of these, even better
  • Experience in the insurance or financial services sectors.
  • Experience of advising on retail insurance products, consumer credit matters and regulation.
  • We don’t expect you to tick every box, and if you feel you hit most of the brief, it’s worth exploring to further develop your career here with us.
What’s in it for you
  • Prepare for your retirement with our colleague pension scheme.
  • Private Medical Insurance (WL2+) for you and virtual GP Service for you and your family 365 days a year.
  • Performance related annual bonus.
  • Indulge in a generous holiday allowance with a minimum of 7.2 weeks, with the opportunity to buy more.
  • Embrace the benefits of our Colleague Clubcard, enjoy a 10% discount that increase to 15% every payday. As an added perk, we’ll give you a second card to share with someone else.
  • Benefit from our family-oriented initiatives, encompassing enhanced maternity leave pay, a shared parental leave policy, and a generous 8-week paid paternity leave.
  • A place to get on - take advantage of our ongoing learning opportunities and award-winning training, to help you achieve the job and career you want.
  • Take part in our Buy as you Earn and Save as you Earn share schemes.
