Responsibilities

The Legal Counsel - Corporate Services, EMEA is responsible for managing, directing, and providing legal advice relating to Computershare's corporate activities and governance within the team's areas of accountability across the EMEA region.

  1. Delivery of pragmatic, timely, high-quality legal advice to non-lawyer colleagues and other lawyers.
  2. Integrated working with Business Line lawyers to anticipate and respond to challenges and opportunities for Computershare's businesses.
  3. Working closely with the Group Corporate Development function, associated Business Unit representatives, and designated lawyers across the Corporate Services function on M&A transactions, as well as Business Line lawyers in the delivery of due diligence.
  4. Anticipating, identifying, and communicating issues of legal concern.
  5. Keeping informed of legal and market developments relevant to our businesses and evaluating their impact.
  6. Formulating policies to ensure consistent legal and regulatory compliance across Business Lines and legal entities.
  7. Instructing and managing outside counsel.
  8. Adhering to the legal governance framework, policies, systems, standards, and procedures in all aspects of your work.
  9. Championing and promoting integrity and ethical decision-making.

What will you bring to the role?

The Legal Counsel - Corporate Services, EMEA will have demonstrable knowledge in the team's areas of accountability and be prepared to develop expertise in multiple legal disciplines. As Legal Counsel, you will be a UK-qualified Solicitor with generalist in-house experience.

Skills/experience required:

  1. Deep familiarity with general English legal principles and procedures.
  2. Familiarity with the legal principles and systems of other countries in the EMEA region, in particular the Republic of Ireland and the Channel Islands.
  3. A high degree of professional ethics and integrity.
  4. Sound judgment and ability to analyze situations and information.
  5. Experience in drafting and negotiation.
  6. Excellent ability to communicate effectively across a diverse community of people and cultures, adapting style to suit the audience.
  7. Well organized and able to prioritize and manage competing workload demands.
  8. Confident and assertive while remaining approachable.
  9. Adaptable and able to take on a variety of tasks.
  10. Able to drive initiatives forward both independently and as part of a team.
  11. Experienced in detailed legal analysis and delivery of advice in the context of broader commercial strategy.
  12. A drive to develop expertise in new and wide-ranging areas of law.
  13. Additional European language skills (beneficial).
