The Role

Our dynamic and highly skilled finance team is looking for a Legal Cashier to join the team to be based in our Manchester officer. As a Legal Cashier here at Gateley, you will be responsible for managing client and office account transactions, ensuring accurate allocation of funds, performing daily bank reconciliations, and maintaining compliance with financial and regulatory requirements.

About The Opportunity

Our dynamic and highly skilled finance team is looking for a Legal Cashier to join the team to be based in our Manchester officer. As a Legal Cashier here at Gateley, you will be responsible for managing client and office account transactions, ensuring accurate allocation of funds, performing daily bank reconciliations, and maintaining compliance with financial and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities
Client and Office Account Transactions
  • Process and allocate all incoming BACS receipts received into the firm's various bank accounts, ensuring postings are made accurately to the correct client and office ledgers.
  • Monitor and process incoming telegraphic transfers (TTs), ensuring funds are allocated promptly to the correct matters, and relevant fee earners are notified of all monies received.
  • Review all payment requests received by the Accounts team to ensure funds are available, supporting documentation is complete, and the appropriate authorisations have been obtained.
  • Process outgoing TT payments through the firm's online banking platform, ensuring transactions are accurately recorded on the accounting system and corresponding ledgers.
Financial Administration and Compliance
  • Process counsel and expert fee notes in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with internal procedures and client requirements.
  • Perform regular bank reconciliations, investigate outstanding items and allocate direct debit entries as required.
  • Manage ADIS payments and office credit balances, ensuring all payments relating to billed matters are processed within Solicitors Accounts Rules (SAR) requirements.
  • Support the accurate maintenance of financial records and ensure compliance with relevant regulatory and internal control procedures.
Property and Regulatory Payments
  • Process ad hoc Companies House, SDLT and Land Registry payments and related requests as required.
  • Assist with the administration and processing of subscriptions across the Gateley Group, ensuring records remain accurate and up to date.
Team Support
  • Provide support to the Accounts Payable team during periods of peak workload and operational demand.
  • Respond to internal queries and liaise with colleagues across the business to resolve finance-related matters efficiently.
  • Undertake additional duties and ad hoc projects as required to support the wider Finance team.

The Person

Candidates will be able to demonstrate the following attributes:

  • Knowledge of using legal accounting software (desirable)
  • 1 years' experience in accounts role (desirable)
  • IT literate
  • Strong communication skills and confident telephone manner
  • Previous experience working in an office and or a finance environment (desirable)
  • Experience dealing with volume and working to deadlines
  • Works well as part of a team Attention to detail and accuracy
