Job description

The Role:

A reputable law firm based in Plymouth is seeking a proactive and highly organised Legal Assistant to join their Family Law team. This is a key support role where the successful candidate will be expected to work with a high degree of self-management and initiative to assist lawyers in delivering an efficient and client-focused service.

The Legal Assistant will play a pivotal role in supporting the team’s operations, enabling the lawyers to work at optimum efficiency. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Handling new client enquiries and opening new case files, including accurately inputting client information into the firm’s case management system
  • Preparing both standard and non-standard correspondence and legal documentation through audio-typing and word processing
  • Drafting and issuing appropriate client care correspondence
  • Supporting fee earners with day-to-day administrative tasks and case preparation

The Candidate:

The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated and detail-oriented professional with excellent time management and organisational skills. A positive and collaborative attitude is essential, along with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Key attributes include:

  • Strong initiative and ability to prioritise workload effectively
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Previous experience in a legal environment, particularly in family law, would be advantageous but is not essential
