What's involved with this role:

Legal and Finance Administrator

£23.07 per hour PAYE

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join a Legal Services team as a Finance and Business Support Officer. You will play a key role in supporting the financial operations of the department, working closely with the Business Support Officer and Principal Lawyer for Constitution, Governance and Finance.

You should have a good working knowledge of processes required to meet legislation, policies and standards of Local Government, including money laundering regulations and accounting standards, and have a good understanding of the broad area of Legal Services Support. You must also comply with standards of financial control.

Significant experience of working in local government legal and finance sectors or similar relevant experience is required.

Key Accountabilities
  1. Lead on monthly reconciliations and respond to external audit and financial reporting requirements.
  2. Deliver timely and accurate accounts payable services to Legal Services suppliers.
  3. Collate and report on income/expenditure, including spend on external counsel and legal experts.
  4. Support the development of revenue and capital salary forecasts.
  5. Manage financial records, resolve invoice variances, and ensure timely payments.
  6. Act as a key point of contact for supplier queries and third-party financial matters.
  7. Provide system expertise (Oracle, IKEN, court bundling tools) to support legal operations.
  8. Assist with budget setting, monitoring, forecasting, and preparation of financial statements.
  9. Coordinate the administration of professional legal accreditations and internal audits.
  10. Support planning and execution of service improvement projects and process enhancements.
Key Criteria
  • Part-qualified accountant from an IFAC member body (preferably CIPFA) or AAT Accounting Technicians Level (NVQ Level 4), or qualified by experience.
  • Significant experience in the legal or public sector finance environment.
  • Good working knowledge of processes required to meet legislation, policies, and standards of Local Government, including money laundering regulations and accounting standards.
  • Understanding of Legal Services Support and standards of financial control.
  • Knowledge of Legal Practice Management.
  • Skilled in using financial systems (Oracle or equivalent), spreadsheets, and reporting tools.
  • Proven ability to manage sensitive information, ensuring data accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Experience in AR/AP processes, budget reconciliation, and GL account management.
  • Ability to produce financial reports, support audits, and forecasts independently.
