Job description

Location: Home based, with ad hoc visits to Grimsby/Boston offices as required (DN31 2LJ)

Salary: GBP 55,000 per annum

Vacancy Type: 12-Month Fixed Term Contract

LHP is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Legal and Data Protection Specialist to join their team, providing strategic guidance on legal compliance, data governance, and privacy legislation.

This role requires a thorough understanding of regulatory frameworks and a commitment to ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of sensitive information across LHP.

What could a typical week look like for the Legal and Data Protection Specialist?

A Typical Week Could Include:

  • Reviewing updates and contributing to key policy changes such as the Data Protection and Digital Information Bill and Social Tenant Access to Information requirements
  • Meeting with the Legal and Data Protection Business Partners to support technical advice and larger projects, such as developing data maps
  • Producing training materials, guidance, templates, and briefings to ensure colleagues understand and implement changes
  • Conducting horizon scanning to stay updated with legislative and regulatory developments
  • Raising awareness of legal and regulatory compliance across organizational projects, including Awaabs Law, AI governance, social housing regulation, building safety, and data protection
  • Supporting the development of AI governance and ethical use of GenAI tools
  • Assisting colleagues with complex data protection and legal queries
  • Reviewing and updating LHP's data protection compliance controls
  • Collaborating with the Risk and Assurance team to assess legal and data protection risks
  • Supporting the Legal Business Partner in reviewing legal services frameworks and value-for-money approaches
  • Reflecting on lessons learned from recent legal or data protection issues and updating internal templates and guidance
  • Conducting end-of-week wrap-ups and horizon scanning for emerging legal and regulatory risks

Skills, Abilities, Knowledge, and Experience Needed:

  • Qualified solicitor, legal executive, or Data/Information governance specialist
  • Significant experience advising organizations on legal compliance and regulatory interpretation, preferably in housing, public, or regulated sectors
  • Experience supporting or acting as a Data Protection Officer
  • Proven ability to help teams understand and apply complex legal or regulatory requirements
  • Experience in developing or delivering corporate policies, training, and improvement plans
