Legal Advisor Role at Devon & Cornwall Police Force

We have an exciting opportunity for a talented Legal Advisor to join Devon & Cornwall Police Force in Exeter.

If you are passionate about providing exceptional legal services and seek career development within a friendly working environment, this role is ideal for you.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Providing legal advice to Chief Constables, officers, and staff, including the Offices of the Police and Crime Commissioners.
  2. Offering tactical and strategic legal guidance on various issues.
  3. Collaborating with Litigation, Operations, and Vulnerability teams within the Legal Services Department.
  4. Managing caseloads, handling contentious matters such as civil claims, employment tribunals, inquests, and judicial reviews.
  5. Supporting operational cases, including police misconduct, commercial, and disclosure matters.
  6. Working on civil preventative orders with partner agencies.
  7. Reviewing and overseeing legal advice provided through the 'duty advice scheme'.

Minimum qualifications and skills:

  • LLB (Hons) degree or equivalent, with a qualifying Solicitor, Barrister, or CILEX.
  • Experience handling contentious legal matters.
  • Strong knowledge of legal principles, legislation, case law, and police law.
  • Ability to manage diverse caseloads and communicate effectively.
  • Attention to detail, research skills, and IT literacy.
