Job summary

Adecco are recruiting a Legal Advisor to work within the Devon & Cornwall Police Force in Exeter. The role offers a temporary ongoing contract with hybrid working arrangements and an hourly rate of £26.41 for 37 hours per week.

The successful candidate will provide comprehensive legal services to Chief Constables, officers and staff, handling civil claims, inquests, tribunals, and judicial reviews, while mentoring junior staff and supporting police operations.

Qualifications

• An LLB (Hons) degree or equivalent qualification, with relevant professional qualifications as a Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives.
• Proven experience in handling contentious legal matters with knowledge of police law.
• Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence at all levels.
• Strong research and investigative skills with attention to detail and a diverse caseload.
• IT literacy and familiarity with case management systems.

Responsibilities

• Offer tactical and strategic legal advice across civil claims, Employment Tribunals, Inquests, and Judicial Review.
• Manage a diverse caseload and provide proactive legal support for police operations.
• Collaborate with officers and partner agencies to obtain civil preventative orders and mitigate risks.
• Provide advocacy representation for the Chief Constable in legal proceedings.

Our client, a prominent organisation within the legal sector, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Legal Advisor to join their dynamic team in Exeter. This is an exciting opportunity for a legal professional to provide comprehensive legal services to Chief Constables, officers, and staff, as well as to the Offices of the Police and Crime Commissioners (OPCC).

Key Responsibilities
