Job summary

Adecco are recruiting a Legal Advisor to work within the Devon & Cornwall Police Force, at Middlemore Police HQ in Exeter. The role is temporary ongoing, 37 hours per week, with hybrid working and an hourly rate of £26.41.

The successful candidate will provide legal services to Chief Constables, officers and staff, manage a busy caseload, and support the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner with civil and regulatory matters.

Qualifications

• LLB (Hons) or equivalent; professional qualifications as Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives.
• Proven experience handling contentious and non-contentious matters with strong knowledge of police law.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with the ability to influence at all levels.
• Strong research, investigative skills and high attention to detail in a high-pressure environment.
• IT literacy and familiarity with case management systems and legal databases.

Responsibilities

• Provide tactical and strategic legal advice across civil claims, Employment Tribunals, Inquests, and Judicial Reviews.
• Manage a diverse caseload and support police operations with proactive legal guidance.
• Collaborate with officers and partner agencies to obtain civil preventative orders and mitigate risks.
• Advocate on behalf of the Chief Constable in various proceedings and ensure thorough preparation.
• Supervise and mentor paralegals and legal administrators within the team.

Our client, a prominent organisation within the legal sector, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Legal Advisor to join their dynamic team in Exeter. This is an exciting opportunity for a legal professional to provide comprehensive legal services to Chief Constables, officers, and staff, as well as to the Offices of the Police and Crime Commissioners (OPCC).

Key Responsibilities:

As a Legal Advisor, the successful candidate will:

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:

• An LLB (Hons) degree or equivalent qualification, with relevant professional qualifications as a Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives.
• Proven experience in handling contentious legal matters, with a comprehensive understanding of legal principles, legislation, and police law.
• Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence decision-making at all organisational levels.
• Strong research and investigative skills, coupled with high attention to detail and the ability to manage a diverse caseload in a high-pressure environment.
