About the role
We are looking for a candidate to teach approximately contact hours over an academic year, primarily in Norwegian language at undergraduate level, and Comparative Literature at BA and/or MA level. Core teaching will include the following modules: ‘Introduction to Norwegian Language and Culture’ and ‘Intermediate Norwegian Language and Culture’.
The post holder will also contribute to teaching and BA and/or MA-level dissertation supervision on Scandinavian literature, culture and history, and Comparative Literature. The post holder will also assist in the examination of other Scandinavian-language modules as part of the Scandinavian language teaching team, and participate in programme-related activities, events and student recruitment.
The post holder is entitled to devote 15 per cent of their working hours to scholarship and/or research, and will be welcome to participate in our Research Clusters, research seminar series, public engagement initiatives, and other events and projects.
This is a full-time post. The successful candidate will be expected to take up the position from 1 September or as soon as possible thereafter.
About you
The successful candidate will have at least a postgraduate qualification (Master’s degree or equivalent) within the area of Norwegian Teaching as an Additional Language and/or Norwegian Linguistics and/or Translation in a Nordic context and/or Nordic Studies.
We are particularly interested in candidates with a PhD (completed or close to completion) in Norwegian Language or Literature, Nordic Studies, Translation, Comparative Literature, or another subject relevant to teaching in SELCS-CMII.
They will be completely fluent in Norwegian and English and have expert knowledge of literary theory and history, sufficient to teach Comparative Literature at BA level.
The post holder will have excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills when dealing with both colleagues and students, excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage time and work to strict deadlines. They will also be committed to high-quality teaching.
