This includes aligning with the General Medical Council's Medical Licensing Assessment and incorporating feedback from a recent external review.
We are seeking a Lecturer (Teaching) - Clinical to play a key role in this important work; supporting the redesign of our current curriculum and shaping the strategy for its implementation from 2026 onward.
About the roleThe Lecturer (Teaching) will play a key part in the ongoing redevelopment of the MBBS curriculum, applying clinical knowledge and experience in medical education to help shape a forward-looking and academically rigorous programme.
Reporting to the MBBS Senior Leadership Team and working collaboratively with academic and administrative colleagues, the role includes contributing to curriculum review and design, engaging with relevant stakeholders, reviewing current evidence on effective medical education, and helping to refine the structure and timing of assessments across the programme.
The post involves participation in teaching activities, the development of digital learning materials, and involvement in departmental initiatives such as research, education consultancy, community outreach, and postgraduate education.
The role includes opportunities for continued professional development through participation in relevant training and educational activities in medical education.
Appointment details:
- The appointment is available from October 2025 and is fixed term until 05 October 2026, or until the substantive postholder returns, whichever is sooner.
- Due to the requirements of this role, we are unable to offer working hours below 0.6 FTE.
- The post is graded on GRADE 8 or CL8. Salary for Grade 8 ranges from £54,172 to £62,035 including London allowance. Salary for CL8 ranges from £54,468 to £61,833.
- Applicants who work medically at a SAS grade under a separate contract with an NHS Trust or public health body will be placed on UCL's clinical pay scales as per the CL8 grade. They will be expected to join their clinical and this teaching roles under a single contract, as per the Follett Principles.
- You will be placed on CL8 if jointly combined with a medical role or G8 if standalone teaching position
About youYou are a medically qualified educator with experience in curriculum development, teaching, and assessment across clinical and academic settings. You hold a postgraduate qualification in education or equivalent experience and have a strong understanding of pedagogy in medical education. You communicate effectively, work well both independently and in teams, and are confident using digital tools to support learning. You are committed to inclusive education, continuous professional development, and contributing to a collaborative academic environment. Experience in a medical school setting, educational leadership, and a research interest in medical education are welcomed.
