One of four schools in the College, the School of Art & Design is home to subject disciplines including Animation, Architecture, Automotive & Transport Design, Design Management, Fashion, Fine Art, Games, Graphic Design, Illustration, Interior Architecture and Design, and Product Design.
We are looking to appoint an ambitious and enthusiastic Lecturer (Teaching) to our Fashion team.
With an enviable reputation for leading design education in this field, our Fashion programmes are distinctive for links with industry and a nineteen-year track record for producing successful graduates who have progressed to leading positions in fashion design studios all over the world.
Central to this role is teaching industry practices and imparting key design development and product realisation techniques as well as industry-specific, and transferable skills. As a Lecturer (Teaching), you will be proactive in the use of both traditional and digital tools, introducing innovative and exciting communication approaches based on a good understanding of current and emerging fashion industry practices. Experience using the Adobe Creative Suite is essential, focusing on image production and editing, and film editing. A good understanding of AR, VR, and AI technologies from a fashion perspective would be advantageous.
Candidates must have a strong and up-to-date awareness of developments within the fashion industry and be enthusiastic to work in innovative and experimental ways across our suite of fashion courses, developing directional and globally competitive portfolios of work with our students, and enhancing the visibility of the courses through promotional contributions.
Candidates must be confident to engage with physical and online teaching methods, practices, tools, and an integrated and sometimes cross-disciplinary approach to studio teaching and learning. The achievement and satisfaction of our students is our top priority; candidates must be qualified (or willing to become qualified) to teach and assess at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Our successful candidate will be dynamic, eager to build an academic profile in creative arts education, and experienced in the field of fashion. You will be actively engaged in fashion design, marketing, promotion, and/or communication, with a proven track record of applying specialist fashion skills within the creative sector.
Applicants should be qualified at least to Master’s level (or with equivalent professional experience) and have a good understanding of the fashion industry, innovative practice, and the role of fashion in contemporary culture and UK Higher Education. Experience of education innovation would be advantageous. You will need high digital fluency and ongoing engagement with professional, scholarly, and pedagogic development; those without a teaching qualification will be required to undertake Coventry University’s PGCHE or secure a HEA fellowship.
Within our global education context, you should bring a high level of cultural awareness, with experience of diverse learner backgrounds. Conscientiousness and agility in your teaching style are essential, along with effective communication skills across diverse audiences.
Innovation and collaboration are key; the ability to generate and implement innovative ideas, work independently, and engage flexibly within a team are crucial skills.
