PeoplesFuture Ltd, sister company of Coventry University, is seeking a Lecturer (Teaching) in Building Surveying. The role focuses on delivering education across undergraduate and postgraduate programs, with emphasis on active, inclusive learning and professional integration.

You will teach HE levels 4–7 in Built Environment topics, coordinate modules, assess and provide academic guidance to support student success and employability.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Building Surveying or Honours degree with professional qualification or membership.
• Teaching qualification or willingness to obtain one.
• PhD or active membership of a relevant professional body would be advantageous.
• RICS membership and relevant practical experience highly desirable.
• Experience with AutoCAD is required; apprenticeship experience desirable.

Responsibilities

• Teach on HE modules and courses at levels 4–7 in Built Environment, Surveying and Sustainability.
• Coordinate modules and courses, develop materials, and deliver varied teaching sessions.
• Oversee assessment design, moderation and marking, and ensure academic integrity.

The Role

As a Lecturer (Teaching) in Building Surveying you will undertake teaching and course co-ordination in the field of Building Surveying and the Built Environment, while supporting the development and delivery of undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional programs and other core activities ensuring students have an effective learning experience.

As a teacher of Building Surveying knowledge or experience in some of the following areas is required:

Measured Surveying

Based within the College of Engineering, Environment and Science you will work closely with other academic colleagues to enrich the student learning and teaching experience to ensure, as appropriate, relevant aspects of research, enterprise and professional context are embedded in modules and courses.

Duties include:

Teach on modules and courses at HE levels 4-7 in Built Environment, Surveying and Sustainability academic subject areas including curation, adaptation and creation of module teaching materials, delivering a variety of types of students learning sessions and supporting students as appropriate through informal and formal communication throughout teaching semesters.

Engage appropriately in professional development and active membership of professional bodies to keep abreast of developments in relevant subject areas and to undertake professional development in support of teaching and subject knowledge and other core activities to ensure ‘authority to teach’. This will include participation in subject development and self directed learning including attendance at conferences or workshops (c. 4-6 days pa) and mandatory pedagogic CPD (c.4-6 days pa).

The design, creation, moderation and quality assurance of appropriate module assessment.

Assessment, marking and feedback; including coordination of marking teams for large modules, submission and upload of student marks within stipulated turn round periods and presentation at appropriate meetings and committees as required. To uphold high standards of academic integrity in all aspects of teaching, learning and assessment and to support students in this objective.

To act as module leaders where required and appropriate including development of required supporting material. To take on specific course management roles as agreed with School management and course directors.

Ensure that students have an effective learning experience by providing high quality academic guidance and advice and by enhancing their retention/progression and employability.

Qualifications Required

• Master’s degree in an appropriate subject or Honours Degree with appropriate professional qualification and/or membership
• A teaching qualification or acceptance of the requirement to acquire one if not already held
• PhD or active membership of an appropriate professional body would be advantageous
• Membership of RICS and relevant practical experience are highly desirable.

You will have demonstrable experience of successful teaching at higher education levels 4-7 in Building Surveying with high standards of teaching, learning and student engagement consistent with our reputation and track record as a high-quality provider of teaching and learning.

Experience working with AutoCAD is required for this role. Experience working with apprenticeships is also desirable.

Enthusiastic and self-motivated, you will have experience supporting, enhancing and engaging in an ‘active learning’ pedagogy with evidence in proactively supporting student success.
