Job description

The Department of Social Care and Social Work is a successful academic community of students and staff committed to delivering high-quality teaching, an excellent student experience, and impactful research. We currently deliver courses to over 800 students and have ambitious plans for growth. Our teaching is highly innovative, and we are recognised both locally and regionally as leaders in Degree Apprenticeships—where we are award-winning. We are also renowned for the quality of our national delivery, which includes three Step Up to Social Work regional partnerships. All of our Social Work programmes have been approved with no conditions by Social Work England.

The Department has a strong track record of securing research council funding and maintains a growing portfolio of projects. Much of this research focuses on learning disabilities and autism, health inequalities, mental health, and child protection.

The Role

We are seeking a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Social Work (Full-time) to teach across our range of programmes, primarily the BA Social Work and Social Work Degree Apprenticeship, as well as postgraduate programmes in Social Work. The role includes curriculum development, teaching and assessment, and providing academic tutoring to social work students.

You will be a passionate academic with a strong grounding in social work practice, committed to maintaining professional standards and delivering an outstanding student experience. The role also requires strategic thinking to support the development of departmental strategy, narrative, and pedagogy. You will work closely with Department, Programme, and Module Leaders and respond to developments from professional, statutory, and regulatory bodies (PSRBs).

The Candidate

We are looking for candidates who ideally have a minimum of five years' experience in statutory social work (either children and families or adult services).

You will have:

  • In-depth knowledge of contemporary social work practice
  • Ideally, experience of teaching at higher education level in social work
  • Registration with Social Work England
  • Strong team-working skills, with the ability to inspire and engage student and staff communities through collaboration, co-creation, and contribution

Application & Assessment

To apply, please submit a CV and a covering letter outlining how your experience, profile, and aspirations make you an ideal candidate for this role.

Interviews will be held on 7th July and will include a presentation.
