Job Purpose

To deliver an excellent student experience through teaching and assessment; to undertake research and scholarship in a priority area within electrical and electronics engineering; to contribute to management and administration; to play a leadership role in your areas of academic and professional expertise. The teaching responsibilities of this post will be delivered from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) campuses and will require you to live and work overseas in Chengdu and/or Lingshui Li’an, China, for the equivalent of at least one teaching semester per year (typically 18 - 20 weeks).

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Develop, lead and sustain personal and group research aligned appropriately with the teaching and the School/College/University.
2. Contribute to the planning, organisation and delivery of high-quality teaching, supervision and assessment activities across undergraduate/postgraduate programmes within the Subject/School.
3. Enhance your research profile, reputation and esteem through:• Establishing and sustaining a track record of independent and joint publications of international quality in high-quality refereed journals, generating research impact in terms of economic/societal benefit;• Presentation at international and national conferences and at internal/external seminars, colloquia and workshops;• Identification of potential funding sources and the development of proposals to secure funding from internal/external bodies to support future research;• Developing and maintaining collaborations with colleagues across the School/College/University and external Academic and Industrial Partners;• Contribution to team/group meetings/seminars/workshops and activities to enhance the wider knowledge, outputs and culture of the School/College.
4. Contribute to the ongoing development and design of undergraduate/postgraduate curricula, to ensure a research-led approach to student learning and assessment in the discipline and/or profession.
5. Manage a variety of academic administrative activities, including timely delivery of effective and constructive feedback on assessment, and provision of pastoral support.
6. Contribute to the management and organisational duties of Glasgow College, as assigned by an Executive Dean, and the wider School.
7. Engage in personal, professional and career development.
8. Contribute to the enhancement of the University's international profile in line with the University's Strategic Plan.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential: A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 [PhD] or equivalent in related discipline with a growing reputation for scholarship within the subject area.

A2 A developing national / international reputation, evidenced by esteem indicators, in a field that matches or enhances existing activities within the School.

A3 Membership of a relevant professional body or commitment to achieving professional status within two years of appointment.

For appointment at Grade 9:

A4 An extensive and established reputation in research and teaching within the subject area to develop new knowledge and understanding within the field.

A5 An extensive and established reputation in research and/or teaching within an existing area in the School as evidenced by esteem indicators.

Desirable:

B1 Knowledge of the higher education environment in China and East Asia.

Experience

Essential:

E1 Sufficient depth of relevant research experience including postdoctoral experience, appropriate to an early career researcher.

E2 Evidence of an emerging track record of presentations and publications.

E3 Experience in undertaking independent research and contributing to successful funding applications.

E4 Excellent track record of development and delivery of teaching, tutoring or demonstrating at undergraduate or postgraduate level.

For appointment to Grade 8/9 the following criteria should also be met:

E5 Demonstrate enhanced leadership, academic responsibility and strategic management, particularly through internationally leading research, outputs and funding.

E6 Strong track record of undertaking research, publishing in high impact journals at national and international level, and in attracting external research funding.

E7 Excellent track record of contribution to academic and administration activities in a research-led institution.

For appointment at Grade 9:

E8 In addition, demonstrate a distinctive contribution to the academic community through a leading role nationally and internationally e.g. shaping research agendas, advising review panels and funders.

E9 Evidence the above criteria to a higher degree, particularly in generation of research, outputs, funding, supervision, and knowledge exchange/impact.

Further Information

Multiple positions are available. The teaching responsibilities will be delivered from UESTC campuses and will require living and working overseas in China for at least one semester per year. The School is highly research-intensive, ranked top in Scotland for engineering research excellence in REF 2021, with extensive facilities and collaborations.
