Job summary

University of Exeter invites applications for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Genomic Counselling (Education and Scholarship). This part-time (0.1 FTE) permanent post starts 1 December.

Salary scales £43,482–£51,753 pro rata, depending on Grade and level, for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level within the Department of Clinical and Biomedical Sciences. Qualifications

  • PhD in Genetics/Genomics or Genomic Counselling to develop teaching programmes and support learning.
  • Evidence of excellent teaching identified by peer review and impact beyond own teaching.
  • Ability to engage students using a range of delivery techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Teach as a member of a teaching team within established programmes including MSc in Genomic Medicine.
  • Lead Genomic Counselling module(s).
  • Teach in small group tutorials to large lectures meeting learning objectives for Genomic Medicine and clinical utility of genomic approaches.
  • Develop teaching materials and approaches; supervise student projects under guidance.
  • Set and mark assignments, provide feedback, reflect on teaching design and delivery, analyse feedback.

About The Role

Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Genomic Counselling (Education and Scholarship)

This part-time (0.1 FTE) post is available from 1st December on a permanent basis.

Salary is £43,482 on Grade F or £51,753 on Grade G per annum pro rata, depending on the level

Salary will be from £43,482 per annum pro rata on Grade F for the Lecturer level and from £51,753 per annum pro rata on Grade G for the Senior Lecturer level, subject to knowledge, skills and experience.

We are seeking to appoint a new Lecturer/Senior Lecturer with a particular interest in Genomic Counselling to support the delivery of Genomics in the Department of Clinical and Biomedical Sciences.

The Post Will Include
  • Teach as a member of a teaching team within an established programmes of study including the MSc in Genomic Medicine.
  • Lead the Genomic Counselling module(s)
  • Teach in a variety of settings from small group tutorials to large lectures, ensuring content, methods of delivery and learning materials meet the defined learning objectives for individual teaching sessions specifically Genomic Medicine and clinical utility of genomic medicine approaches.
  • Develop own teaching materials, methods and approaches.
  • Supervise the work of students, provide advice on study skills and help them with learning problems.
  • Set and mark assignments and set examination questions as well as assessing the work and progress of students by reference to defined criteria and provide constructive feedback to students.
  • Seek ways of improving performance by reflecting on teaching design and delivery and obtaining and analysing feedback.
  • Supervise students’ projects under guidance and supervision.
About You
  • Possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist and core knowledge in the discipline, demonstrated by a PhD (or nearing completion) or equivalent in academic area to develop teaching programmes, and teach and support learning;
  • Use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students;
  • Participate in and develop external networks, for example, to contribute to student recruitment, secure student placements, facilitate outreach work, generate income, obtain consultancy projects, or build relationships for future activities;
  • Will have evidence of excellent teaching identified by peer review and have made an impact at discipline programme level beyond their own teaching;
For a Senior Lecturer Post You Will
  • Possess a depth or breadth of specialist knowledge demonstrated by a PhD in Genetics / Genomics or Genomic Counselling or equivalent, of the core knowledge relating to Genomic Couselling in order to teach and support learning on Genomic Counselling modules.
  • Have a consistent track record of excellent teaching across a variety of modules and levels within your discipline as might be expected of a very experienced HE Teacher.
  • Contribute to the design, development and delivery a range of modules or programmes at various levels; applying innovative and appropriate teaching techniques; identifying sources of funding and securing funds for own scholarly activities and providing academic leadership to those working within programme areas.
