Job description

Southampton Solent University’s Warsash Maritime School is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Marine Engineering to contribute to the delivery of our specialist Marine Engineering and Electro-Technical Officer seafarer programmes. The focus will be on delivering our Management level UK MCA Engineering Knowledge preparation courses and other commercial Marine Engineering courses. The successful candidate will participate in the school's commercial and research activities and contribute to enhancing the student experience.

Warsash Maritime School has a global reputation for practice-led education, preparing future maritime industry leaders. The Marine Engineering team is renowned for cadet and senior officer education supporting career development at sea and ashore.

The candidate will be part of the Marine Engineering team, holding a management level certificate of competence from a UK Flag State Endorsement recognized country, along with an undergraduate and/or postgraduate degree in a relevant field (e.g., Shipping and Maritime Operations, Marine Engineering, Maritime Business). Flexibility to teach across various topics is essential.

  • Starting salary depends on qualifications and experience within the stated salary band.
  • This role includes a 10% WMA allowance in addition to the base salary.
  • 35 days of leave plus public holidays and scheduled university closure periods.
  • Opportunities for professional development up to PhD level and to undertake postgraduate teaching qualifications.
  • Expected start date is September 2025.
