The Department of Literature, Film, and Theatre Studies (LiFTS) is a foundational and interdisciplinary department at the University of Essex, fostering theory and practice across creative writing, theatre, literature, filmmaking, and journalism.
With strengths in American (Caribbean and US), postcolonial, comparative, and world literature(s), LiFTS offers a broad literature program from the Early Modern to contemporary periods.
The postholder will teach literature at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with specializations in American (Caribbean and US) literature and/or comparative and postcolonial literatures. Responsibilities include lecturing and leading seminars in introductory modules for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. A detailed list of duties is available in the attached job pack.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience teaching literature at higher education levels, holding a doctoral degree in Literature or English or equivalent professional experience. Experience in designing learning activities, developing effective learning environments, and supporting students is essential. The candidate should demonstrate a commitment to inclusive education, respecting diverse learners, and promoting equality of opportunity.
