Here at Merton College, we are seeking a Lecturer to provide tutorial and pastoral care for learners with learning disabilities/difficulties and monitor work experience activities.
You will act as a Course Leader and take responsibility for their study programme, participating in all aspects of student assessment and accreditation. You will be involved in curriculum planning and product development as needed, delivering and embedding Maths and English to SEND learners to support the College’s strategic objectives.
As our Lecturer, you should hold a teaching qualification (or be willing to work towards one), ideally possess a relevant professional qualification, and have experience working with SEND learners. You should be able to work effectively as part of a team, be aware of current curriculum changes and their implications for SEND learning strategies and reforms. Knowledge of the evolving agenda for SEND learners in further education, and experience in curriculum development to meet sector demands, along with providing effective student support, are essential.
You should be an experienced teacher capable of managing students with challenging behaviour and communicating effectively at a level appropriate to diverse learning abilities. Knowledge of the accreditation framework, assessment strategies in the post-16 sector (including RARPA), and the application of information and assistive technology in teaching are required. Experience working with external agencies and assessment or IV practices for specialist accreditation is also necessary.
The College encourages applications from candidates qualified or with commercial experience in vocational specialisms, as we aim to provide relevant curriculum content aligned with students’ vocational aspirations.
The closing date for applications is 3rd July 2025.
The benefits package includes 40 days of annual leave plus up to 8 additional days over Christmas/New Year, 5 wellbeing days, an excellent pension scheme (Teachers Pensions or Local Government Pension Scheme), subsidised sports facilities, professional development opportunities, and a salary sacrifice cycle scheme.
