Vacancy | Lecturer in Public Services (Full and Part-time available)

Title: Lecturer in Public Services (Full and Part-time available). Hours: 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per annum. Salary: Between £31,185 and £40,267 per annum FTE. Organisation: Chelmsford College. Closing Date: 10/10/2025.

Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Lecturer in Uniformed Services to deliver inspiring and high-quality teaching to learners aged 16-19 who are aiming for careers in the Police, Armed Forces, Fire Service, Ambulance Service, or Security Services. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a thriving and successful department that combines discipline, leadership, and physical training to prepare learners for public service. You will teach across a range of Policing and Uniformed Services programmes, including NCFE Levels 1-3. The role includes leading outdoor and residential activities, and contributing to physical fitness training. The ability to drive a minibus or willingness to complete relevant training is required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach and assess across a range of Uniformed Services programmes (Levels 1-3).
  • Deliver engaging lessons in both classroom and practical settings, including fitness and outdoor activities.
  • Support student progression through tailored guidance, motivation, and discipline.
  • Participate in residential trips and external activities related to the curriculum.
  • Contribute to course development, team meetings, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and structured learning environment.
  • Maintain accurate records of learner progress, attendance, and achievements.
Essential Requirements
  • A minimum Level 3 qualification in a relevant field.
  • Professional experience in the Police, Armed Services, or other Emergency Services.
  • Ability to motivate and engage young learners aged 16-19.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to drive a minibus (or undertake training to do so).
  • Commitment to promoting equality, safeguarding, and professional standards in education.
Desirable
  • A recognised teaching qualification (or willingness to obtain—fully funded and supported).
  • Previous teaching, tutoring, or training experience in Further or Higher Education.
  • Experience of delivering NCFE or similar vocational qualifications.
  • Knowledge of curriculum and assessment strategies in Uniformed Services education.
  • First Aid or fitness instructor qualifications.
  • Experience planning and leading outdoor or residential activities.
