Position Description
Position Summary
The Department of Computing, Mathematics and Physics at Messiah University invites applications for a full-time one-year lecturer faculty position to teach courses in introductory and advanced topics in physics beginning August 2025. Courses include lectures and labs in introductory mechanics, electricity and magnetism, and upper-level courses in solid state physics and classical optics. It may also include introductory mathematics and programming courses. Course load will depend on applicant’s qualifications and/or interest.
Responsibilities
Design and teach courses in introductory and advanced physics; create and maintain a course page in Canvas LMS structure; design and grade assessments of student learning; respond to students in a timely manner via weekly office hours and/or email.
Courses meet face to face for 2.5-hours/week for 15 weeks either in three 50-minute lectures ( MWF ) or two 75-minute lectures. Scheduling may be adjustable, but typically occurs between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Qualifications
Master’s degree within the STEM discipline is required and previous experience teaching University level physics is preferred. Candidates must evidence the potential for strong classroom teaching and positive student interaction and mentorship. Messiah University’s Computing, Mathematics and Physics Department offers the following undergraduate degrees: BA in Mathematics, BA in Mathematics with Secondary Teaching Certification, BS in Actuarial Science, BS in Data Science, BS in Physics, BA in Physics, BA in Physics with Secondary Teaching Certification, BS in Cybersecurity, BS in Computer Science, BS in Software Development, BA in Digital Media and minors in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Web Development.
The Department
The Department of Computing, Mathematics and Physics comprises 4 full-time computer science, 5 full-time mathematics/statistics, and 2 full-time physics faculty. The department serves a wide range of majors in Computing, Mathematics and Physics, in addition to meeting course requirements in other fields of study.
