Job Description:

The Vacancy

Kidderminster College is a thriving college in the heart of the West Midlands. In August, the College joined Newcastle College Group (NCG), one of the largest education and training providers in the country.

To meet our ambition of delivering an exciting and outstanding educational experience, we need an enthusiastic and inspiring teacher in Performing Arts, specialising in Acting, Acting for TV and Film, and Estill Voice International (Singing and Voice), with a proven record of high success and a strong desire to encourage learners to reach their full potential. This post provides an excellent opportunity for a teacher with enthusiasm and drive who is committed to lively, student-centered teaching. The post will primarily involve teaching Performing Arts across a wide range of levels from Level 1 to Level 3, with the potential for Level 4 and 5.

We welcome applications from experienced and newly qualified teachers who hold a PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification, professional industry experience, and a relevant degree.

We are seeking an inspiring and knowledgeable Performing Arts lecturer with expertise in Acting, Acting for TV and Film, and Estill Voice International (Singing and Voice). The ideal candidate will have strong industry experience, a passion for teaching, and the ability to engage and motivate learners. Essential qualities include excellent communication skills, a creative approach to curriculum delivery, and the ability to adapt teaching methods to suit different learning styles. A commitment to student development and achievement is crucial.

Classical and Contemporary Acting:

The candidate should have a deep understanding of the historical and theoretical foundations of acting techniques including those of Stanislavski, Meisner, and Chekhov, and how they contrast with contemporary approaches such as physical theatre, devising, and post-dramatic performance. The ability to critically analyze and interpret classical texts (e.g., Shakespeare, Greek drama) as well as contemporary scripts is essential, helping learners explore character development, themes, and performance styles. Knowledge of voice, movement, and psychological techniques to enhance character portrayal, with a strong emphasis on practical application, is also required.

Acting for TV and Film:

Expertise in acting techniques specific to TV and film, such as working within the frame, hitting the mark, understanding camera angles, and delivering performances suitable for close-ups. Preparing learners for industry-standard auditions and screen tests, including self-tape practices and cold reading. Ability to teach scene study for the screen, focusing on subtleties of expression, timing, and conveying emotion for camera.

Estill Voice International:

In-depth knowledge of the anatomical and physiological components of voice production, including understanding the larynx, vocal folds, and breath support. Mastery in teaching the Estill model’s Figures for Voice Control and the Six Voice Qualities, adapting them for acting and singing contexts. Application of Estill technique to maintain vocal health, manage performance anxiety, and develop a versatile voice suitable for different acting and singing styles. Knowledge and practical experience of teaching Estill Voice International are essential. Certified Level 1 and Level 2 Estill Voice International training is desirable but not mandatory.

If you have the drive and passion to work in this area and are committed to delivering outstanding teaching and learning, we would like to hear from you.
