Job description

Salary: £39,596 - £45,848 per annum

Hours per week: 37

Reporting into: Senior Lecturer

Department: Department of Law

This role operates primarily on a remote working arrangement that will require occasional travel into one of our campus locations (Birmingham, Leeds, London and Manchester). There will also be some occasional evening work, and up to 8 weekends a year for teaching on the LLM programme. Our working model arrangements are a non-contractual benefit so please note that an Arden work location is added to our employment contracts.

About our Department

The Law Department sits within the School of Criminology, Criminal Justice and Law, and is part of a collaborative, supportive academic community. We are a small but friendly team who work closely across our different campuses and online.

Our students come from a variety of backgrounds and personal circumstances which often impacts the way in which they interact with their programme. Our programmes provide a less traditional model of study which is accessible for busy learners. They are able to study more flexibly and to excel within our learning environment. We are passionate about providing accessible and innovative education in a supportive manner.

About the Opportunity:

In this role you will be required to contribute to the development and delivery of both our undergraduate and postgraduate provision. You will:

  • Deliver excellent teaching and learning for our students.
  • Design excellent digital teaching material for undergraduate and postgraduate study ensuring that content and methods of delivery meet defined learning objectives.
  • Manage own teaching activity and reflect on practice and development of skills, with support/guidance as needed.
  • Undertake administrative activities to support teaching and learning activities.
  • Actively contribute to Department level activity.
About You:

We are looking for an innovative, motivated and professional individual who has experience of creating high-quality digital learning materials to enhance student learning, and is committed to creating an excellent teaching and learning environment for our students.

Essential requirements:

  • Qualified to postgraduate level in English Law.
  • A good understanding of both the Qualifying Law Degree and Solicitors Qualifying Examinations as well as wider industry issues.
  • Experience in teaching, learning, and assessment practices in Higher Education.
  • A track record of successfully contributing to programme teams and being an inspiring and creative lecturer.
  • Ability to teach across the foundations of legal knowledge or SQE curriculum.

Desirable requirements:

  • A PhD in Law and/or legal practice experience is welcome but not essential.
  • Ideally, you will hold FHEA or an equivalent teaching qualification. However, we are prepared to support the successful candidate in obtaining a recognised HE teaching qualification and advanced HE Fellowship at the appropriate level.
