Job description

We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for aLecturerin Law position within the Criminal Justice department in the Faculty of Social and Life Sciences. This role is ideal for an experienced and dedicated academic professional looking to take the next step in their career and contribute to the growth and development of our law programmes.

About the Role

As aLecturer in Law, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality legal education, supporting research initiatives, and contributing to the academic development of the department. You will be expected to:

  • Deliver innovative and engaging teaching across a range of law modules.
  • Supervise and mentor students.
  • Conduct high-quality research and contribute to the department’s research profile, including securing external funding and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Play an active role in curriculum development, ensuring alignment with professional body requirements such as the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) and Bar Standards Board (BSB) regulations.
  • Develop strong links with legal practitioners, professional bodies, and external stakeholders to enhance employability opportunities for students.
  • Provide leadership in academic and administrative activities, including supporting junior colleagues and contributing to departmental strategy.

Essential Criteria

We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic individual who meets the following criteria:

  • Post Graduate Qualification, minimum Masters
  • A strong record of excellence in legal education, with experience in curriculum development and student support.
  • A developing research profile, with peer-reviewed publications and/or success in securing external research funding.
  • Experience of supervising student research projects or dissertations.
  • A thorough understanding of contemporary legal education, including developments in professional legal training (e.g., SQE, BSB pathways).
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and teamworking skills.
  • The ability to contribute to the strategic goals of the law programme and the wider Criminal Justice Department and engage with external legal networks.
