Job description

As part of the University's significant and continued investment in the Law School's strategic vision and growth, there are exciting opportunities available at Lecturer level, contributing to the delivery of programmes across the academic portfolio and joining a vibrant and rapidly growing research community. There are roles available that align with both our research and education, and our education and pedagogy/practice pathways. Every appointment will be expected to deliver excellent learning and teaching in, at least, one of our core UG modules and elective modules at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level. We have a number of areas of priority teaching need - especially in areas of Company and Commercial Law, Contract, Property and Employment Law, and would like to see applicants (on either pathway) who are excited to teach in these areas. Applicants, with broader interests in digital legal education, pro bono and sustainability would also be welcome, to build on the School's leadership in this area. Our programmes have a strong contextual focus, and we are keen to appoint colleagues who are motivated to deliver an outstanding student experience for all of our diverse cohorts. In the context of our research & education roles, we wish to build on a number of recent outstanding appointments to recruit colleagues who can add to our areas of research strength.

Areas of Research Strength:
  • Corporate & Professional Regulation
  • Equalities & Human Rights - including aspects of Social Welfare Law
  • Sports Law & Governance; Popular and Creative Cultures
  • Legal Geographies, Environmental Law and Sustainability

We have a supportive and inclusive research environment, with a strong commitment to support early career colleagues, for example through structured mentoring programmes. Our research groups are not exclusive, with most members of the School's research community playing an active role in more than one research group. Alongside this, there are exciting opportunities to join us on our Education, Practice (Pedagogy) and Citizenship (EPC) pathway. For this post, ideal candidates could be individuals who have experience in delivering legal education in either FE or HE contexts, and/or are able to bring their legal practice experience to the classroom to further strengthen our contextual approach to legal education. This pathway will provide successful candidates with the opportunity to be supported in working with internationally recognised scholars in legal pedagogy and colleagues who draw on outstanding legal practice expertise.

Manchester Metropolitan University fosters an inclusive culture of belonging that promotes equity and celebrates diversity. We value a diverse workforce for the innovation and diversity of thought it brings and welcome applications from local and international communities, particularly those from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic backgrounds, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ individuals. We support a range of flexible working arrangements, including hybrid and tailored schedules, which can be discussed with your line manager. If you require reasonable adjustments during the recruitment process or in your role, please let us know so we can provide appropriate support. Our commitment to inclusivity includes mentoring programmes, accessibility resources and professional development opportunities to empower and support underrepresented groups.

Manchester Metropolitan University's Law School is recruiting and is offering outstanding opportunities for excellent scholars committed to making a difference for our students and wider society through excellent education that transforms lives and high quality, impactful research. We are based within a fantastic global city and are a warm, supportive and inclusive Law School community.
