About the Role

We seek applications for a Lecturer in Korean Digital Media, focusing on contemporary digital culture and media practices in South Korea. The position may be extended for an additional three years.

The successful candidate should have a strong research profile in Korean digital media and be capable of contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching across the School of Arts and Korean Studies programs.

The role involves developing interdisciplinary teaching and research that connect Korean cultural studies, digital media, and global creative industries.

Applicants should have a promising publication record, an active research agenda, and demonstrated excellence in innovative teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The appointee will contribute to the department’s research profile and enhance degree delivery, especially expanding SOAS’s expertise in Korean Studies in the UK.

The ideal candidate will be dynamic, creative, collegial, possess specialist knowledge of Korean Digital Media, relevant academic and teaching experience, and proven administrative skills. Proficiency in Korean language and research expertise in Korean digital media are essential. The candidate should also have arts industry networks and experience enriching student experiences outside of traditional coursework.

The role includes publishing outstanding academic research, convening and teaching modules, advising dissertations, and providing pastoral care. Contributions to the BA Digital Media and Culture and other programs are expected. Collaboration across departments and the school is also essential.

It is desirable for the candidate to be a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy; SOAS supports applications if not already a fellow.
